St. Kitts and Nevis will use the single namespace gov.kn to help enhance the image of the twin-island Federation and facilitate nationals living at home and abroad, as well as potential investors, interfacing with government’s agencies and departments.

“The naming of websites and other e-services will strictly follow international best practice,” said Minister of State for Education, Information and Technology, Nigel Carty.

At Monday’s Cabinet meeting, government affirmed its commitment to the continuous evolution of its own technology policy by approving a policy to bring greater uniformity to government’s presence in cyberspace.

“The policy mandates that all government websites and email services including those operated by embassies and state missions abroad project a uniform naming system by using the gov.kn namespace,” added Carty.

In November of 2006, the cabinet approved a new 'National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategic Plan' to guide the orderly development of the technology sector in the Federation. Since the approval of the strategic plan, significant advances have been made.

These include the opening of the new National ICT Centre at the C. A Paul Southwell Industrial Park, which to date has trained over 500 persons in various information technology disciplines. The Centre houses a state of the art computer lab, an e-government application development and implementation lab, a video-conferencing centre, and a small business incubation centre.
