Premier and Minister responsible for the Department of Information on Nevis, Joseph Parry has welcomed the launch of a new website designed to provide information on the island's continuing development, and boost its profile internationally.
The new website, www.gisnevis.com, launched earlier this month, and is said to be more user friendly than its predecessor at www.queencitynevis.com, which was used by the Department of Information.
"I invite all Nevisians to the Department of Information's website for Nevis to view all the information that we provide for dissemination for the people on Nevis at home and abroad especially in the United States of America in the Virgin Islands, the United Kingdom and Canada," Parry commented.
"We are endeavouring to bring you the best presentation that we can of what's taking place in Nevis and to ensure that the information that you get is absolutely accurate, can help you to make learned decisions and may even encourage you to return home more often or to come back home to live and help us develop our country. I do hope many of you will visit it often, happy viewing," he added.
Meantime, Director of the Department of Information Huey Sargeant noted that
the site was multifunctional and user friendly, and revealed that two major considerations
during the development stages were the site's effective layout to allow easy
navigation of the vast information offered and the reflection of Nevis's beauty
in an effort attract to visitors to the island.
According to Sargeant, among the features offered by the website are: on demand
video of the local segment of the Nevis News Cast aired daily on Channel 8,
photo galleries of major events on Nevis and the stories in text format from
the Editorial section.
He said the Department was taking its service to a new level and also joined
Parry in his invitation to the public to visit the website which he said would
continue to grow.
"The site is by no means completed. Some of the features we are looking
at in the future include an audio archive and live streaming."
"I must say thank you to e/Caribbean [previous site developers] for their
assistance in our realising the true potential of a website."
"I must also say thank you for the hard work to the Editorial section of
the Department and the staff of Ebizz [new site developers] for a site which
I now have the honour of inviting the entire world to use," he concluded.
