The Italian Government's Finance Ministry has placed its full tax legislation on-line for the first time. All tax rules dating from 1972 are now available (in Italian, naturally) at:
http://dt.finanze.it/doctrib/SilverStream/Pages/DOCTRIBFrameset.html.
The data-base consists of 110,000 documents, including legislative texts and decrees, circulars and resolutions. The Finance Ministry says its goal is to make the relationship between citizens and institutions more transparent.
Italians have been able to file their tax returns on-line already for more than a year.
The state tax documentation service, whose Italian name is Il Servizio di Documentazione Tributaria, offers its on-line service from 8 am to 8 pm Mondays to Fridays, but only until 2 pm on Saturdays (esclusi i festivi, naturally).
Ever the most civilised nation on earth, the Italians also let their computers have a rest.
