Mueller Uges EP To Pass Software Patent Resolution

by Ulrika Lomas, for LawAndTax-News.com, Brussels

31 August 2005

Founder of the NoSoftwarePatents campaign, Florian Mueller has called upon the European Parliament to pass a resolution on software patentability.

According to an ag-IP report, in a statement released to coincide with the return of MEPs from their summer break, Mr Mueller explained that the objective of the resolution would be to influence European Patent Office Policy.

He also suggested that the EP should request a new proposal for a software patent directive from the European Commission following the suggestions put forward by the Parliament.

Although Mr Mueller acknowledged that a resolution would not be legally binding for the EPO, he argued that it would carry a lot of political weight.
