Mourant Ozannes Tops Legal Rankings

Mourant Ozannes's Channel Islands offices have noted the latest International Financial Law Review 1000 rankings, in which the firm received top tier accolades in each of the ranking's subcategories – the only such Channel Islands' firm to do so.

The firm is the product a merger conducted earlier this year of Channel Islands law firms Mourant du Feu & Jeune and Ozannes.

In Jersey, Mourant Ozannes received praise for being "the market leader" in financial and corporate work with the research highlighting its work in cash box structures, adding that the firm was "extremely good in deals, particularly work related to re-domiciling". Within investment funds, the research underlined its strength in fund restructuring and hedge funds.

In Guernsey, the research highlighted that the financial and corporate team "is undisputed" with "rivals waiting to see whether the merger will change the dynamic in the legal market", whilst on the investment funds side the research found the firm to be "very pro-active, which is refreshing".

The results of the research are based on independent research that includes data relating to firms, interviews, client and competitor feedback and market analysis from the past twelve months.

The IFLR 1000 research also concluded that the "formation of Mourant Ozannes has been one of the major talking points in the past year" and that there is "no doubt that in terms of personnel the firm is a force to be reckoned with". The rankings identified a "clear feeling in the market that newly merged Mourant Ozannes would be a positive move for both sides".

Jonathan Rigby, Managing Partner of Mourant Ozannes, welcomed the ranking's recognition, stating: “It is extremely gratifying to receive such a positive endorsement from our clients and to be recognised by IFLR as the only top tier law firm in both Jersey and Guernsey. Throughout the merger process we have worked hard to continue to provide clients with the best possible service. I am delighted that this has been recognised in the IFLR 1000 rankings.”

Other firms be featured prominently in the rankings included Carey Olsen and Ogier for their investment funds business. Carey Olsen's Guernsey team were also in the top tier in terms of its financial and corporate team, whilst Ogier's team in Jersey received the same recognition.
