by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

27 September 2001

According to a survey by Europay International, MasterCard's European strategic partner, around half of all credit card holders in Ireland are completely unaware that they pay euro 19 (£15) a year in tax. The survey questioned a cross-section of 500 credit card users to pinpoint the difference in spending and borrowing behaviour between young and old users, with 71% of respondents in the 25 and under age category admitting that they had no idea of the tax.
