Philip Morton, Investors Offshore.com, London

02 February 2001

It was announced this week that online financial advisers Morningstar Japan and US-based Motley Fool, a major investment advisory site, are to team up to launch a website offering free information on US stocks to Japanese investors.

In the West poeple might hear more about US and European investors utilising the wonder that is the Internet to manage their investment decisions, but Japanese investors too are increasingly turning to the Internet to take charge of their personal investment strategies.

The new website, according to a Morningstar spokesman, 'will be designed to enable private investors in Japan to arm themselves with knowledge and invest more wisely.' The site, which will be 50% owned by Motley Fool, 30% owned by Morningstar and 20% owned by Japanese Internet incubator Capital.com, is due to go live at the end of February.

Motley Fool in the US provides a range of free information to domestic investors, with the main focus on US shares. The new venture is expected to provide much the same service for Japanese investors.
