According to figures released by Taiwan's Ministry of Finance this week, 2.68 million tax returns were filed online ahead of the recently passed deadline, representing more than 54% of the total.
The Ministry stated that this showed a 9.47% increase in online filing from last year, when 2.45 million returns were lodged via the internet.
Reports in the nation's media ahead of this week's deadline suggested that many taxpayers were leaving it until the last minute to put their tax affairs in order, with the Taipei Times revealing on Monday that almost 2 million of the nation's 5.2 million taxpayers had yet to file a return at that point.
