A Commonwealth Management Development Programme (CMDP) meant for senior tax officials from the Commonwealth countries across the African, Asian, Caribbean, Mediterranean and South Pacific regions is currently being held at the headquarters of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) in Port Louis.

An initiative of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators, in collaboration with the MRA, this programme, which started on August 4, 2008, will run over a period of nearly one and a half months until 12 September.

The objectives of the CMDP are to extend participants' management perspective and skills while enabling them to review and revisit their management practices.

The programme will help them to develop confidence in applying new skills in their workplaces and to create an active learning environment. It will also assist them in acquiring team work skills and team learning processes and broaden their knowledge in certain key areas of tax administration as well as in examining trends in Commonwealth tax administrations.

The training covers areas such as tax administration, best practice design for tax administration sub-systems and other subjects related to the tax system.

Experts from the Australia Taxation Office and Inland Revenue are conducting the programme.
