A third round of discussions took place recently between India and Mauritius on implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) which was signed by the two countries in August.
A high level delegation from Mauritius led by Anand Neewoor, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, attended the discussions, which focussed on bilateral trading links. Subjects coming under consideration included rules of origin, certification procedures, the establishment of new tariff categories, and accords on customs collaboration and consumer protection.
Also discussed were a Memorandum of Understanding on Science and Technology and a bilateral standards agreement.
It's understood that these agreements will be ready for signature during a further visit by senior Mauritius officials to India at the end of the month.
A joint Indian/Mauritian document identifies the main areas of co-operation as including trade in goods and services, promotion of investment, tripartite co-operation (particularly in Africa) and co-operation in education and health, among other sectors.
A further CECPA meeting will take place next month.
