Isle of Man based internet service provider Enterprise has claimed that it may have to relocate part of its operations to England unless Manx Telecom's monopoly is ended, because its rates are not competitive enough.
The managing director of Enterprise, Jon Huxley, claims that the cost of telecommunications services from Manx Telecom is forcing his company out the island. Mr Huxley said that his company is actively looking into moving its equipment to England, leaving only its administration on the island and saving £200,000 in telecommunication costs in the process.
"For us to use a telecommunications provider in the UK would reduce our overheads by about £200,000 a year. It is a significant amount for us because we are quite a small company. We could pass the benefits onto our customers and compete in a fiercely competitive market place," Mr Huxley said.
Mr Huxley has called on the Isle of Man Government to introduce legislation to end Manx Telecom's monopoly on the telecommunications market and open it up to competition.
