Man Group plc, the world's largest listed hedge fund firm, announced last week that funds under management grew by USD3.1 billion over the quarter ended 31st December 2007 to USD71.7 billion.
The company revealed in its quarterly Funds Under Management Statement that sales in the three months to the end of 2007 amounted to USD4.2 billion, comprising: guaranteed products, which accounted for USD0.6 billion; other private investor sales for USD1.0 billion; and institutional sales for USD2.6 billion.
Private investor redemptions were USD1.8 billion and institutional redemptions were USD1.8 billion in the quarter concerned. Meanwhile, performance added USD1.5 billion and currency translation impacts and other adjustments added USD1.0 billion.
The split of funds under management as at 31st December was private investor USD41.7 billion (30 September 2007: USD40.6 billion) and institutional USD30.0 billion (30 September 2007: $28.0 billion).
Man reported that the overall performance of its funds in the quarter remained mostly positive, with its flagship AHL fund up 5.1%, the RMF fund up 2.7%, and the Glenwood fund up 1.7%. However, the Man Global Strategies Fund was down 0.8% over the three months to the end of December 2007.
