The Malta Maritime Authority has identified Kalkara Creek as a suitable site for the development of a temporary marina. As the next stage in its development, the Authority has called for companies to submit proposals for the management and operation of the marina, to be located on the eastern shore.
The announcement follows a consultation process carried out in July. The arrangement in Kalkara will comprise of a temporary pontoon infrastructure for the mooring of approximately 60 yachts and other craft for a period of eight years. The chosen operator at Kalkara will be requested to provide a range of services such as berthing assistance, provision of supplies and other related services, and to operate the facility for his risk and benefit whilst the Malta Maritime Authority will regulate the activities.
This was the third temporary mooring area to be authorized by the Authority in the first week of December after it issued a request for proposals for similar projects in Xemxija Bay and in Salina Bay, both in north Malta.
Information on the proposed marinas can be found on the Authority’s website, where interested parties can submit proposals until January 22, 2010.
