The Maltese Inland Revenue Department has upgraded its online tax return system to facilitate the Financial Settlements System over the internet, it has emerged.
The new service allows the electronic submission of the FSS payer’s annual reconciliation statement and employee statements of earnings for social security and tax contributions.
The system has been constructed to give the user immediate feedback on the submission of FSS statements so that the completed process can be acknowledged online once any errors have been corrected.
The new system also allows payments to be tracked and corrections made at an early stage.
The Maltese Inland Revenue first launched its e-file system for corporate returns back in September 2002. The system allows tax practitioners on behalf of their clients to lodge company income tax returns and financial statements, submit provisional tax reduction forms and view taxpayer accounts.
Further additions to the Inland Revenue’s suite of electronic services are to be launched later in the year.
