Malta Vies To Become Regional Centre Of Excellence In ICT

by Robert Lee, Tax-News.com, London

22 February 2006

Malta is rapidly gaining recognition as a regional centre of ICT excellence, as evidenced by the presence on the island of Business Objects, a leading business intelligence software company, according to Minister for Investment, Industry and IT, Austin Gatt.

Addressing a Business Objects conference in Malta, Mr Gatt stated that the major world players in the information technology sector have not only seen Malta as a client but as a genuine partner, as a result of various 'Vertical Strategic Alliances' that the island has created.

Mr Gatt argued that the development of these alliances has helped to make Malta a genuine attraction for regional business activity in the ICT sector.

"The ever-increasing supply of Maltese specialist human-resources is almost instantly taken up by new investments and new clients," the minister noted.

“We have made for them our objective and commitment to increase the supply of capable hands using training and placement programs for our young or people in employment seeking new opportunities," Mr Gatt told the conference.

He added that the strategic alliances have helped Malta to build a genuine information society that strives to be inclusive and complete.

Business Objects, a global business intelligence (BI) software company, enables organizations to track, understand, and manage enterprise performance. The company’s solutions leverage the information that is stored in an array of corporate databases, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

The firm has more than 35,000 customers - including over 80 percent of the Fortune 500 - and a network of more than 3,000 partners and resellers.
