Speaking on Monday, Malta's Competitiveness Minister, Censu Galea revealed that the country will sign up to the European Patents Convention in order to provide increased patent protections for Maltese right holders.
The announcement was made following a second reading debate on amendments to the Patent and Designs Act.
Mr Galea also pledged to step up participation in the World Intellectual Property Organisation, suggesting that such a move, in conjunction with joining the European Patents Convention, would allow Malta to become more involved in the respective groups' decision-making processes.
