Malta to open nine more chapters of negotiations with EU
Reports in the local media say that Malta and the European Union
will start negotiations on a further nine chapters of the EU body
of legislation know as the Acquis Communautaire. The reports say
that the European Commission will propose the opening of nine
chapters which should be monetary union; energy; statistics; consumer
and health; fisheries; company law; competition policy; free movement
of capital; and social policy.
The negotiations on another seven chapters were closed a few weeks ago. These negotiationa are a crucial step for Maltas bid to join the EU since Malta has to comply with the Acquis in order to join.
It is difficult to say when these chapters will be closed since these are considered more difficult.
