According to a Malta Independent report published on Tuesday, the Malta Institute of Taxation is fully behind the prospect of the jurisdiction's membership of the European Union, and has been since its establishment in 1995.
For the eight years that the Taxation Institute has been in existence, it has run a pro-EU education programme, hosting seminars addressed by local and foreign specialists, the Malta Independent revealed. The MIT has also represented the country in the Confederation Fiscale Europeene (CFE) since 2000.
Speaking to the local newspaper this week, Institute spokesman, Conway Wigg announced that:
'No member, or non-member, for that matter has ever expressed any doubt, difficulty or problem regarding Malta's prospective membership of the European Union, or spoken against membership.'
'The only conclusion is that the tax profession in Malta is ready for the country's membership of the EU, and that the Institute's members are looking forward to working alongside their colleagues in the other 24 member states of the Union.'
