Malta Enterprise, the new body tasked with attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) to the island, finally launched on Friday, following controversy and delays.
The umbrella body, which is assuming the roles of the Malta Development Corporation (MDC), the Malta External Trade Corporation (METCO), and the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprise (IPSE), has been divided into three main business units, according to its CEO, Philip Micallef.
The first unit will be responsible for business development, which includes attracting FDI, trade promotion, marketing strategies, knowledge management, and foreign offices. The second unit will primarily be responsible for client relationship management, whilst the third will deal with corporate services.
Speaking to the Malta Business Weekly recently, head of the Malta Enterprise management team, Zammit Tabona revealed that the body has been asked to focus its efforts on job creation, rather than investment value.
"The minister is requesting us to create 10,000 new jobs over the next five years," he explained.
