The Maltese Government has finished the benchmarking process for virtually all classes of individuals and companies in Malta, an achievement that is perceived as a major step forward in its fight against tax evasion.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Finance Minister John Dalli said that these benchmarks were formulated by officials from the Tax Compliance Unit and two economists from the University of Malta. He said that the benchmarks will be used to provide an indication of what individuals or companies are expected to earn.
Meanwhile, Minister Dalli also revealed the government’s privatisation agenda is moving on schedule and that the privatisation process of the Malta Freeport, Malta International Airport, MOBC, Kordin Grain Terminal and the Lotto Department will be concluded by year's end.
