Government representatives from Malta and the Republic of San Marino held talks on Tuesday aimed at accomplishing the signing of a bi-lateral double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA).
Addressing a press conference, Maltese Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Frendo, observed that the tiny Republic of San Marino would serve as Malta's gateway to the Italian market, whilst Malta will act as a commercial bridge to North Africa.
Frendo also observed that the agreement would boost tourism, and advance Malta as an English language learning centre for Italian students.
Meanwhile San Marino's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Fabio Berardi, stated that the agreement would boost joint financial ties and help raise the profile of the states within a European context.
