A bilateral cooperation agreement between the representative business organisations of Estonia and Malta was sealed last week, marking the first such arrangement between new European Union member states.
Joseph Zammit Tabona, chairman of Malta Enterprise, who signed the accord with Enterprise Estonia president Tea Verrak, hailed the agreement as "historic". He went on to observe that it was an "exceptional example in mutually profitable cooperation between two of the new EU member states," according to a Malta Independent report.
Mr Zammit Tabona explained that the agreement will allow Malta to "assist Estonian companies to do business in the Mediterranean, while Enterprise Estonia will provide support and assistance to Maltese companies looking to do business in the Baltic states and Russia."
The agreement provides for mutual flow of business information between the two nations, and both sides will seek to assist in the organisation of business delegations in Malta and the Mediterranean, and in Estonia and its neighbouring Eastern European markets.
Mr Zammit Tabona added that "both Malta Enterprise and Enterprise Estonia stand to benefit by sharing resources and thereby lowering the cost of such activities while increasing the benefits to the individual companies taking part in such initiatives. In other words, it’s a win-win situation all round."
