The Malaysian Inland Revenue Board plans to form more strategic partnerships with banking institutions in the country, in an effort to provide more tax payment counter collection services to the public. Its chief executive Datuk Zainol Abidin Abd Rashid says such a collaboration would enable the board to be more efficient.
He told reporters, after signing an agreement with Public Bank Bhd in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, that the board had already approached various other banks to participate in the initiative. "We are currently negotiating with these banks. Nevertheless, it is still up to them whether or not they want to accept our invitation," he added.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chan Kong Choy, who witnessed the signing ceremony, said Public Bank's participation would increase the number of tax payment collection counters nationwide by 131%, providing an additional 381 payment counters through its branches nationwide for a total of 636 payment counters all over the country at which taxes can be paid.
