The governments of Malaysia and Venezuela have signed an agreement to avoid double taxation during an official visit by the Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
The agreement was signed on Monday by Malaysian Minister of Finance Nour Mohammed Yacoub and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro Moros.
In a statement, the Venezuelan government said that the agreement will help the two nations fight "bias caused by imposing overlapping, similar taxes on taxpayers in the countries concerned" whilst encouraging the reduction of tax barriers that hinder bilateral investments.
The agreement also enhances cooperation on the prevention of fiscal evasion.
