It emerged this week that Malaysia and Iran have signed a protocol to amend their existing double taxation agreement (DTA), in order to further facilitate trade and investment between the two countries.
The protocol was signed by Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister, Syed Hamid Albar, and Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs, Tahmaseh Mazaheri on Monday, and the Malaysian Finance Ministry this week expressed its hope that the amended agreement for the avoidance of double taxation will strengthen ties between the countries on all levels.
The Ministry of Finance also stated that businessmen and investors in both countries should be able to undertake cross-border economic activities more easily, now that the legal and tax framework for this area has been updated.
Earlier during the Iranian Economy Minister's visit to Malaysia, other bilateral and Islamic issues were discussed, according to reports.
