Malaysia's Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Jacob Dangau Sagan, has announced that Malaysia will continue Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with the US.
Beginning their first round of negotiations in March 2006, the two countries have since held seven sets of discussions over the details of the FTA.
Consensus has not yet been reached, due in part to Malaysian reluctance to compromise over the US request to implement trade laws which may affect Malaysia's sovereignty.
If the agreement goes ahead, Malaysia would gain improved access to several key areas of America's market, particularly textiles, lumber and ceramics.
