The London Stock Exchange is planning to open a Hong Kong office later in the year in an attempt to attract more listings from mainland companies, according to a report in the Chinese press.
Zhu Xiaojian, the LSE’s Asia Pacific President, told the Chinese Wen Wei Po newspaper that London’s simple listing procedures are particularly suited to small and medium-sized Chinese businesses.
Zhu also told an investment forum in the southern Chinese province of Fijian that Hong Kong will represent a useful conduit for the LSE to tap into the potentially vast Chinese market.
The Hong Kong office will be open for business by November, Zhu indicated.
