London Conference To Explore Offshore E-Gaming Opportunities

by Robert Lee, Tax-News.com, London

21 February 2005

Business services firm PKF Malta, and the publishers of I-Gaming magazine, Sports Business group, are organising a conference to explore opportunities for the e-gaming industry in offshore centres such as Malta, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, which is to be held in London in the summer.

According to the Times of Malta, the conference, to be held in June, is a follow up to a similar event held last year and delegates are set to discuss a number of issues pertinent to the world of offshore e-gaming, including matters of regulation, taxation, and the location of servers.

The speakers at the conference, which include lawyers, regulators and industry advisors, will also explore the European Union and its policy on state gambling monopolies, in addition to EU principles of law, harmonisation of standards and cross border advertising.

The Times also reported that the Maltese government has recently made further progress in refining its e-gaming laws in the national parliament. It is estimated that a potential $2 billion could flow into the jurisdiction’s banking industry from an expansion of the e-gaming sector as a result of new regulations.

A comprehensive report in our Intelligence Report series examining offshore e-commerce and online gaming is available in the Lowtax Library at http://www.lowtaxlibrary.com/asp/subs_reports.asp and a description of the report can be seen at http://www.lowtaxlibrary.com/asp/description_report6.asp
