The new Liechtenstein parliament elected in February convened on March 18 for its opening session and the swearing-in of the selected representatives. Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein gave his traditional speech for the opening of parliament. Alois spoke in favour of the continuing efforts to improve tax information exchange cooperation and urged the government to push ahead with reforms.

"Of crucial importance to the future of our country will be that the government and Parliament adopt the requisite reforms for a realignment of the financial center as quickly as possible,” Alois emphasised. Alois underlined the importance of bringing in new laws, particularly the implementation of the Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with the United States, and the tax reform which will extensively restructure Liechtenstein's tax system. The new tax law will allow greater cooperation in tax matters with other countries.

"We should have the ambition to make Liechtenstein the best-organized and best-regulated state in the world. The advantages of our small size, combined with our good starting position, are the ideal prerequisites. If we succeed with the right kind of reforms, we will not have to worry about the future."
