It has emerged that the mutual judicial assistance treaty signed between the United States and Liechtenstein on July 8 will go before the latter's Parliament for ratification during its next session.
The Liechtensteiner Vaterland revealed earlier this week that the report submitted by the government following its negotiations with the United States will be scrutinised during the October 23-25 session.
However, the locally-based newspaper suggested that the discussion process is likely to be 'very interesting', given that there is a fairly large degree of opposition to the fiscal information exchange provisions contained within the agreement.
'Critics of the treaty...fear that allowances made by Liechtenstein in this treaty might be the beginning of an open exchange of information in fiscal matters on an official level and thus the end of an essential locational advantage,' the Liechtensteiner Vaterland explained.
