Speaking during the meeting of the Financial Action Task Force in Madrid, Jose Maria Roldan, the current Spanish President of the OECD's money-laundering affiliate said that Liechtenstein was one of seven states on the FATF's list which had shown improvements, but that it would be 'premature' to take any names off the list.
Roldan said that the FATF wanted to see how legislation which had been passed in the seven countries was put into practice, before possibly removing names at the earliest on 31st January 2001.
The Liechtensteiner Vaterland newspaper said that Head of Government Mario Frick is unsurprised that no "de-listing" decisions had been made at the FATF meeting in Madrid. He confirmed that this had to be expected, especially since it had been signalled to government that no states would be cancelled from the black list in October. "In addition to the measures already introduced by us, the FATF wants to see results in their implementation", said Dr Frick.
