An Irish Congress of Trade Unions memo leaked to the Irish press over the weekend has hinted at government plans for a tax break for the Republic's workers.
According to reports, the memo from the ICTU to its constituent trade unions assured them of a tax boost for their members if they backed the proposed national pay deal.
Seeming to confirm the veracity of the memo, the Irish Times has also cited "senior unions sources" as revealing that such an offer has been made.
Although the government has not made such a commitment publicly, as a result of the leak observers are predicting that Union demands for an increase in tax bands in line with inflation will be granted.
