The UK's Labour government has included in its election manifesto a commitment to update the country's intellectual property protections, it emerged recently.

The party, which is seeking re-election on May 5th, promised that:

"We will modernise copyright and other forms of protection of intellectual property rights so that they are appropriate for the digital age. We will use our presidency of the EU to look at how to ensure content creators can protect their innovations in a digital age."

The UK is set to assume the EU presidency from July to December this year.

The manifesto also observed that:

"Piracy is a growing threat and we will work with industry to protect against it."
