Key US Treasury Official To Give Isle Of Man Lecture

A senior figure from one of the US Treasury’s main anti-money laundering agencies is to be guest speaker at the next in the series of Chief Minister’s International Lectures, it was announced on Friday.

William F. Baity – Deputy Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) – will talk to invited guests from Government and the private sector at the Mount Murray Hotel on the evening of Thursday 12th June.

This will be the second Chief Minister’s International Lecture, the first having been given in November last year by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Lewis.

The aim of the series is to develop greater understanding between the Isle of Man and key players in the global environment.

Mr Baity, who was invited to the Island following a Manx Government delegation to Washington last year, will speak on ‘The Need for Greater Co-operation in the Area of International Information Sharing’.

Chief Minister Tony Brown commented that:

"I am delighted that such a senior representative of the US Treasury has agreed to visit the Island to deliver this lecture. The Isle of Man has a strong track record of international co-operation to combat financial crime and it is important that we are aware of the latest thinking in this field."

The FinCen network, created in 1990, is one of the US Treasury’s primary agencies overseeing and implementing policies to prevent and detect money laundering.

Deputy Director since January 1995, Mr Baity is responsible for working with the law enforcement, financial and regulatory communities to ensure the effective co-ordination of anti-money laundering initiatives.
