KPMG Forms Chinese Tax Center of Excellence To Assist Multinational Companies

China is currently following the principle of "taxation fairness", which can be attributed in part to the country's impending entry to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). With so many changes taking place in the country's taxation system, global accounting and tax firm KPMG has opened a "Chinese Tax Centre of Excellence", which according to KPMG will assist multinational companies to improve the tax effectiveness of their Chinese operations.

Wendy Guo, an international tax professional, has been appointed managing director of the new group and will be based in KPMG's New York office. Before joining the firm, she worked for the State Administration of Taxation in China, where she was responsible for creating international corporate tax policy and also co-authored a number of international corporate tax laws.

Jeffrey LeSage, US national partner in charge at KPMG's International Corporate Tax Services practice, said: 'We are pleased to welcome Wendy to the firm. Her vast experience in the international tax arena will allow us to continue to broaden the scope of the innovative and integrated international tax services we currently offer. Wendy's wealth of international tax experience and keen understanding of China's tax landscape will also allow us to tap into this emerging region and continue the firm's long-standing tradition of providing a full range of global tax services.'

Ms Guo, who will be responsible for creating and implementing overall strategy for KPMG, including the development of integrated global tax services for clients with Chinese operations, commented: 'My goal is to work hand-in-glove with the firm's multinational client base in an effort to help them navigate the complex and ever-changing Asian tax landscape. The creation of the Chinese Tax Center of Excellence underscores the continuing globalization of KPMG and will serve to further strengthen the firm's international tax services capabilities.'
