Jersey's continuing progress in the field of offshore e-commerce was given a boost recently, with the unveiling of two new services.
Foreshore, an Internet data centre which will allow businesses to be based in Jersey without establishing a physical presence on the island, unveiled its £5 million facility late last week. Chris Evans, the company's managing director issued a call to action for the island's business sector, charging it to begin promoting e-commerce while it was ahead of the competition.
According to reports, safeguards have been built into the company's systems to ensure that an uninterrupted service is virtually guaranteed, regardless of power cuts, utility failures and natural disasters.
Also unveiled recently in Jersey was the internet site of BPP Offshore, a portal designed to give finance professionals access to the latest offshore recruitment news and updates on positions available in both the offshore and e-commerce sectors. Although BPP Offshore is based in Jersey, the site provides information for several jurisdictions, including Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Dublin, the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Bermuda, BVI, Barbados, Mauritius, and Gibraltar.
