A bumper turnout, both of speakers and delegates, is expected for Jersey’s Annual Finance Industry Conference in London on Wednesday, 3rd May, which will be held this year in a bigger venue - The Mermaid Conference & Events Centre, Puddle Dock, Blackfriars.
Organised by Jersey Finance, the event includes a keynote address from the Island’s Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, and a regulatory review from the Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission, David Carse OBE. An update on Industry developments in Jersey will be delivered by Clive Jones, Chairman and Managing Director of Citibank (Channel Islands) Limited, who will be representing all sectors of the Industry.
The programme will also include an insight from Sue Baines of Northern Trust, a global financial services business which has recently established a real presence in Jersey, and in a new departure this year, Jersey Finance has also invited two economists to give their views on the markets and world economies. Dennis Turner, Chief Economist, HSBC Bank plc, will speak about ‘The Return of Boom or Bust?’ and Ian Ling, a Director of Ashburton, will focus on ‘Today’s Demographics, Tomorrow’s Future’.
Pierre Horsfall CBE, Chairman of Jersey Finance, who will chair the Conference, said: “In the last 12 months Jersey’s Finance Industry has travelled to New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and the Gulf region, but we do so without neglecting London which remains the most important market in which we do business.
“We arrive in 2006 with our banking and funds business at record levels, and our trust sector bullish and shortly to benefit from the introduction of updated legislation. The Industry in Jersey is therefore confident that it is working in a commercial environment that can continue to provide a top quality and diverse range of specialist financial services for London based legal and finance professionals and their clients.”
