Jersey's finance industry will showcase its services to US professionals when it makes its first formal visit to New York at the end of June.
Organised by Jersey Finance Limited, the trip will include a keynote presentation to legal and finance professionals along the lines of the recent London Conference, separate funds and trust and estate planning presentations and an evening reception hosted by Citibank.
The main presentation, on Wednesday 30th June at the Intercontinental Barclay Hotel, will provide an overview of the Island and the business potential of its Finance Industry, together with more specific presentations that will cover wealth management, funds and corporate activity. The three Industry speakers who took part in Jersey's recent London Conference, Clive Jones, Managing Director of Citibank (Channel Islands) Limited, Nicola Davies, Chief Executive of the Mourant Group and Adrian Odell, Head of Funds at Bailhache Labesse, will each be on the podium alongside Phil Austin, Chief Executive of Jersey Finance Limited, who will host the event and provide the overview presentation.
Around 16 Finance Industry practitioners from Jersey are expected to join the Visit.
Phil Austin of Jersey Finance commented:
'In consultation with our Members, it is evident that business with New York is increasing. Since it is undeniably the world's business and financial capital, it is important that the Industry is proactive in building on those business opportunities. The programme has been designed to promote the quality of our jurisdiction and the diversity of financial services to a wide range of Industry professionals and influential business contacts.'
The visit begins on Monday 28th June with a presentation promoting the Island's new expert fund regime to be delivered to New York based members of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA). Among the Jersey-based fund professionals taking part in this seminar are Adrian Odell; Ian Moore, Managing Director, Moore Management; Gary Clark, Managing Director, AIB Worthytrust Fund Administrators and Russell Turner, Managing Director, State Street Holdings (Jersey).
A third Industry event has been arranged for members of the New York branch of STEP (Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners). This presentation will cover a wide range of topics including global trends in trust and tax matters, banking secrecy, anti money laundering regulations, Jersey's tax exchange relationship with the US and other relevant issues.
Joining Jersey Finance for this presentation will be Richard Boleat, President of the Jersey Association of Trust Companies, and other trust practitioners.
Beverley Le Cuirot, Marketing & Communications Director at Jersey Finance, added:
'In the build up to the visit, we have been in contact with organisations such as AIMA and STEP and together we are identifying areas of mutual interest. We have been able to formulate an agenda for our presentations based on the feedback received from these initial discussions. We have been extremely encouraged by the interest shown by professionals in the US as we prepare for our visit and we are also grateful for the valuable help offered to us from many of our Members in the Island with connections to the US.'
