The Jersey Industry Committee, which has been charged with the task of developing the Island's economic strategies, announced last week that it will be forming a body to facilitate and advise upon technology, media, telecommunications, and e-commerce development.
Speaking to the Jersey Evening Post, Deputy Philip Ozouf, who will chair the group, explained:
'The States have long thought that e-commerce should become a significant part of our economy, and the creation of a group to generate ideas is a vital and exciting step forward.'
He added that: 'There are a number of highly successful individuals in the TMT secor in the island, and we want to encourage them to step forward and offer their services as a member of the advisory group so that we can benefit from their knowledge and put Jersey firmly on the TMT map.'
Deputy Ozouf told the newspaper that the advisory group would be looking to develop a coherent e-commerce strategy for the island, and to strengthen the existing industry, and would be tackling issues such as digital broadcasting policy and ensuring adequate training for Jersey's workforce.
However, he warned that the Industries Committee wants professionals to join the group on the basis of their personal skills and experience, rather than as representatives of a particular organisation.
