Jersey Submits Evidence To UK Offshore Inquiry

by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

07 July 2008

Jersey's Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, has this week submitted written evidence to the UK House of Commons Treasury Select Committee Inquiry into Offshore Financial Centres.

Other submissions have been made by the Jersey Financial Services Commission and Jersey Finance Limited.

Members of the Select Committee will be visiting Jersey on 7th-8th July, and at their request will meet Ministers, representatives of the Jersey Financial Services Commission and representatives of the finance industry.

In March 2008, the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee published a report on Financial Stability and Transparency in which the Committee indicated that it intended to undertake further work into Offshore Financial Centres in the context of their ongoing scrutiny of financial stability and transparency, to seek to ascertain what risk, if any, such entities pose to financial stability in the UK.

The Committee announced its inquiry into Offshore Financial Centres on 30th April and invited interested parties to submit written evidence.

A comprehensive report in our Intelligence Report series examining offshore confidentiality is available in the Lowtax Library at http://www.lowtaxlibrary.com/asp/subs_reports.asp and a description of the report can be seen at http://www.lowtaxlibrary.com/asp/description_report1.asp
