Jersey Finance has embarked on its fifth formal visit to the Gulf region to showcase the Island’s financial services industry to finance and legal professionals.
The itinerary this year included Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Bahrain, Qatar and for the first time, Kuwait, where Jersey Finance was co-sponsor of a prestigious Islamic investment conference.
Pierre Horsfall, Chairman of Jersey Finance and leader of the delegation, commented ahead of the trip that: “We will use the opportunity to provide updates on regulatory and legislative developments to the Island’s Finance Industry including a number of enhancements during the last 12 months which have made the Island an even more attractive jurisdiction for Gulf based professionals writing international business."
“I will be accompanied by Mr Geoff Cook, the recently appointed Chief Executive of Jersey Finance, and Mr Martin De Forest-Brown, the newly appointed Director, International Finance with the States of Jersey, and I look forward to introducing them to our contacts in the region.”
The visit began in Kuwait on Sunday, 4th March where Jersey Finance was a silver sponsor at the inaugural Annual World Islamic Finance & Investment Conference at the Courtyard Marriot Hotel and Conference Centre in Kuwait City. The conference, entitled ‘Capitalising on Emerging International & Regional Growth Opportunities’ brought together senior executives from banks, investment funds, corporate and investment banking and Islamic financial institutions, alongside key government agencies, to discuss a range of issues relevant to Islamic finance.
Horsfall added:
“Jersey has a number of specialist firms providing Shari’a compliant products and the interest in this sector is growing. It is appropriate that we are to be part of an event which includes on its agenda, an exploration of new market and product growth opportunities."
He continued: “We value the business from the Gulf region immensely and we are delighted to be returning once again. The focus is on business networking and developing and maintaining relationships with key local contacts and professional intermediaries."
"The Jersey delegation will include representatives from a diverse cross section of the Industry including private client and wealth management, funds and corporate activity which will help to highlight the strength in depth of the Island’s premier Industry.”
