Jersey Finance has confirmed details of the island's fourth official visit to the Gulf region, set to be led by Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, in March of this year.
The delegation is expected to be 30-strong and will include senior representatives from the States of Jersey, Jersey Finance, and the Jersey Financial Services Commission, as well as senior Finance Industry practitioners.
The visit begins in Bahrain (4th March – 6th March), continues in Qatar (7th March – 9th March), moves to Abu Dhabi (10th March – 12th March) and concludes in Dubai, the UAE’s commercial centre (13th March – 16th March). Jersey Finance will be arranging formal receptions and meetings to highlight the strengths of Jersey’s Finance Industry to finance and legal professions in each location.
In addition to Senator Walker, the delegation will include Senator Philip Ozouf, Minister for Economic Development; David Carse OBE, Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission; John Harris from the States of Jersey; and Pierre Horsfall CBE, Phil Austin and Beverley Le Cuirot from Jersey Finance, as well as senior Finance Industry practitioners.
Mr Horsfall, Chairman of Jersey Finance Limited, who will host the receptions alongside the Island’s Chief Minister, commented:
‘The commercial ties between Jersey and the Gulf region are deep rooted and business links are evident in all the main sectors of the Island’s Finance Industry. As well as increasing levels of business in recent years, Jersey organisations are making further commitments to invest in the region, with a number of law firms, trust and investment houses adding to the ranks of Jersey firms that have either set up offices or are intending to do so.
‘By the same token, a number of Middle Eastern financial institutions have now established a presence in Jersey, whilst others are planning to do so. Those commercial ties are certainly getting stronger and are to be welcomed.’
