Jersey Looks For Leader Of Marine/Aviation Activities

04 February 2011

Jersey’s Minister for Economic Development, Alan Maclean has announced that the government has begun its recruitment process to find a new Group Chief Executive to oversee the future strategic and financial structures of the island’s maritime and aviation entities, Jersey Airport and Jersey Harbours.

The decision comes as a result of the planned management integration of the two States trading entities, and has the full support of the recently formed Shadow Board.

The resignation last year of the current airport director, Julian Green, provided the Economic Development Minister the opportunity to review the senior management structure at Jersey Airport and Jersey Harbours.

Each department will retain operational leadership, including legal and safety accountabilities. However, Maclean has acknowledged that both ports have common functions, and it will be one of the objectives of the new Group CEO to focus on the strategic challenges and to improve the efficiencies of both departments.

Maclean stated: “Like all States departments, Jersey Airport and Jersey Harbours face some challenging times ahead and the time is right to appoint a dedicated resource to focus on their specific needs and explore future joint opportunities that may be presented. We are already seeing some integration between the two departments and I can see this increasing in the future.”

The recruitment process for the Group CEO role is to begin shortly, and will be advertised both locally and nationally, with the appointment likely to occur from mid-2011. According to the government's statement, business acumen has been deemed of greater necessity from applicants, rather than technical knowledge of the industry.
