Jersey-based firm WorldPay has launched the world's first on-line tax and legal guidance aid. The service, which has its head office and European processing centre in Bath Street, aims to provide e-businesses with the information they need for international and cross-border trading operations.
The system offers tailor-made information for each customer's requirements. It works by asking companies to answer straight-forward questions, their answers are then processed to provide solutions to taxation and legal problems, or simply to clarify issues concerning all aspects of cross-border trade. The service charges £50.00 plus VAT for three months access.
This new service, called t@xandlegal.com, is supported by an alliance of two major UK firms - Deloitte & Touche and Bernard Leighton. Deloitte & Touche is one of the largest professional service firms in the UK, and Bernard Leighton is ranked among the top 20 City law firms.
WorldPay's home page informs its customers of its position as Europe's "leading e-commerce company". It can offer customers around the world the components they need to create a business online such as a customer account, multi-currency payment services and e-commerce storebuilder software. In fact, WorldPay considers its ability to approve approximately 95% of online applicants for multi-currency payment services within 48 hours to be "unique".
WorldPay has recognized the need for a tax and legal guidance for companies online. Russell Clarke, WorldPay's product development director, said: 't@xandlegal.com will guide WorldPay clients quickly, easily and economically through the regulatory maze of e-trading, a feat that was impossible for cross-border traders until now.'
The Jersey government is certain to approve of such a local e-business initiative. The Jersey Information Society stated in its vision statement in April 2000 that 'The Island of Jersey is a quality international business centre that encourages high value added business. The growth of e-business is viewed by the Island's government, the States of Jersey, as essential for the future of Jersey. Its development is being given the highest priority.'
