Jersey's Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker on Tuesday organised three sessions at the Jersey Arts Centre to present and explain the full scope of the Island's new branding exercise, and to give States members, the media and the public the opportunity to comment on the proposals in their entirety rather than on just the “golden bird” logo, which has been the subject of much criticism and concern.
The new Island 'brand' was officially unveiled in late April, after 18 months of consultation, discussion and evaluation. The result was a comprehensive toolkit to be used by anyone involved in promoting Jersey’s identity abroad, which highlights the qualities which make Jersey stand out in the world.
It reportedly cost GBP240,000 over the 18 month period to develop the range of materials which can be used by any organisation involved with Jersey, in either traditional printed form or in new media.
Speaking ahead of the three sessions held this week, Senator Walker explained that:
“In view of the many concerns and criticisms that have been expressed, I have decided that we should lay all the work undertaken on both the brand, and the research that supported its development, before States Members, the media and the public, so that they can see at first hand the full extent of what is intended and what the money has really been spent on. Having done so, I hope that everyone will let us have their views, ideas and criticisms."
"I hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to participate in what is an important matter of public interest.”
