Jersey Finance, the promotional agency for the island of Jersey, has announced that it is to maintain its focus on trust and private client expertise this summer through a series of events, following on from the recent success of its Annual Trust and Private Wealth Conference in London.

On June 4th, Jersey Finance chief executive, Geoff Cook, will sit on the panel for a discussion forum in London on the challenges facing the private client industry. The event, entitled ‘Private Client - An Audience With’, will be hosted and organised by legal magazine Legal Week and attended by an invited audience of senior private client partners from UK, European, US and offshore law firms. Jersey Finance is a participating sponsor at the event and a number of Jersey delegates will also be attending.

Joining Geoff Cook on the panel will be leading UK lawyers from Charles Russell, Camilla Baldwin Solicitors and Manches. They will debate the impacts on cross-jurisdictional work following April’s G20 Summit in London, as well as regulatory challenges, exchange of information and developments in international financial centre.

Later the same month, on June 22-23, a delegation from Jersey, Robert Kirkby and Ada Muirhead of Jersey Finance and Advocate Richard Pirie of Crill Canavan, will attend the major Transcontinental Trusts conference in Geneva. As a Gold Sponsor Jersey Finance will have an exhibition stand at the event, which attracts delegates from more than 40 jurisdictions who are keen to hear from leading authorities in the global trust industry. Giles Corbin, Partner at Mourant du Feu & Jeune will give a briefing on Jersey’s new foundations law, whilst Alan Dart, Partner at Bedell Group, will also sit on a discussion panel at the event.

Jersey’s focus on the private client and trust industry will continue in July, when representatives of the Industry will give a presentation in Edinburgh highlighting the complementary services the Island can offer and discussing some of the issues relevant to Edinburgh-based private client lawyers and finance professionals.

The programme of events builds on the success of the Jersey Finance Annual Trust and Private Wealth Conference held in May in London, which was attended by nearly 200 trust and wealth management professionals from the City.

Geoff Cook, Chief Executive of Jersey Finance, commented:

“The impact of decisions made at the G20 summit and tax information exchange agreements remain vitally important issues for the global trust and private client industry. This programme of events offers Jersey a platform to discuss openly with an international audience how these issues affect leading offshore jurisdictions like Jersey and examine the wider prospects for the sector.”

“Whilst trust business in Jersey continues to hold up well, despite the unprecedented economic conditions, it is important to maintain momentum and convey the positive developments that Jersey is experiencing, such as the introduction of Foundations and enhancements to trust legislation.”
