Jersey Finance Expert Looks To Equities For Short Term Opportunities

by Philip Morton, Investors Offshore.com

30 October 2002

Speaking to the Jersey Evening Post late last week, investment expert, Peter Lucas suggested that the Island's investors should be on the lookout for short-term opportunities in the equities market, although he stressed the importance of holding a balanced mix of equities, bonds, and cash in order to allow for swift movement in and out of the sector as circumstances dictate.

Mr Lucas, a global investment strategist at Ashburton, also told the JEP that although a 'golden age' of equity investment similar to that experienced in the 1980s and 1990s is not on the cards:

'Stock markets can be expected to bottom in this final quarter of the year, ahead of improvement to the American economy next year.' He went on to predict that: 'It is our belief that the equity markets, having been so poor for almost three years, are on the verge of a 12 to 18 month period of recovery.'
