The Jersey Financial Services Commission (FSC) has announced that it has invited many of the leading figures in the war against international crime to a seminar in mid-July to mark the FSC's third anniversary as an independent statutory body.
Entitled 'International Co-operation - its Impact on Financial Centres,' the FSC states in a press release that the seminar is designed to broaden an understanding of the potential for Jersey's law enforcement, justice and financial regulatory officials to co-operate with other jurisdictions and international agencies.
The FSC is expecting the three-day event (16-18 July) to attract an international audience from more than a dozen countries, including examining magistrates and police officials from mainland Europe. Key speakers will include Rosalind Wright - director of the UK Serious Fraud Office, John Moscow from the New York Attorney's Office, Theodore Greenberg from the US Department of Justice, David Minty - head of the Police Financial Crimes Unit in Jersey, and director general of the FSC, Richard Pratt.
Mr Pratt explained to the This is Jersey online news service: 'This is a practical working session to improve the flow of information and assistance between us and our nearest neighbours. We want to encourage regulators, law enforcement officers and officials from justice offices in our neighbouring continental countries to seek assistance from us, because we know we can assist them if they ask.'
