The Jersey Financial Services Commission earlier this month announced that it had entered into an Information Sharing Agreement with the European Business Register.
The Commission is responsible for the regulation and supervision of banking, collective investment funds, insurance business, investment business and trust company business conducted in or from Jersey. It is also responsible for the Jersey Companies Registry.
The EBR is made up of most of the official company registers (or equivalent) in Europe.
The EBR provides one single entrance to information on more than 18 million companies in more than 18 European countries. Jersey, as a participant, will eventually be able to make this company information available to its registry users.
The Jersey Companies Registry will initially provide basic company information to the EBR, such as a company name and number.
The ISA was signed by Mr Julian Lamb, Director of Registry at the Commission and other participating EBR members.
Mr. Lamb announced that:
“Jersey is pleased to be part of the EBR, as it is a significant international organisation whose aim is to make European companies more transparent, which in turn will ensure safer business in Europe. The Commission believes that membership will also be a major contribution to the fight against financial crime, reduce the risk to the public of financial loss due to dishonesty and help deter the misuse of corporate vehicles.”
