According to a report from BBC News Online, the Jersey government has brought in a private consultancy firm to help it decide what goods and services to include under a proposed sales tax.
Jersey is currently exploring the possible introduction of a VAT-style levy to make up for revenues lost under plans to introduce a 0% corporate tax regime.
The firm, Crown Agents, which manages multiple quasi-official UK enterprises, many of them once belonging to the Crown, has also been asked to analyse the possibility of payroll and environmental taxes, according to the BBC.
Jersey is due to publish a public consultation on the tax plans, with a view to releasing a final report later this year when proposals will be debated by States members.
